Four times that Shige hates Koyama's job, and one time he doesn't

..so I should be studying the law myself. TECHNICALITIES PEOPLE. The Koyashige was calling me and I haven't written them in a while T_T Also, first time writing one of these "Five Times" things. Whoo! *jumps on the bandwagon*

1) As a law student, it isn’t as if Shige has ridiculous amounts of free time as it is. He spends much of his time in the library, pouring over dusty volumes of dated (and in Shige’s opinion moronic) laws and trying not to fall asleep in 8am lectures.

So when his Friday afternoon lecture is cancelled and he gets to head home two and a half hours early Shige is quite rightly excited.

That is, until he takes a seat on the train and glances down at the message Koyama sent him while he was dodging through crowds on the way to the station. The hospital wants him to work an extra shift.

Koyama is apologetic, Shige can tell as much from the copious number of sad faces and the extra kisses, and they do kind of need the money, but it’s still all Shige can do to hold back frustrated tears as he stares down at his shoes. They’re going to miss each other again.

2) Shige jerks awake when he feels a weight fall heavily into bed beside him and blinks blearily at his watch. Five thirty seven am.

Confused, Shige sits up and looks quietly down at Koyama. His shift (should have) ended at four am, but from the dark circles under his eyes and the way he’s already snoring softly into the pillow Shige knows that the hospital made him work late again.

With a sigh and a brief, barely there kiss into Koyama’s hair, Shige lies back down and carefully pulls the covers over their bodies. But he doesn’t go back to sleep. He wants to make the most of the fifteen minutes until he has to get up for class, even if Koyama will spend in drooling on his shoulder.

3) With three assignments, two exams and a presentation all due in the next twelve days, Shige more often than not spends every waking moment with his nose buried in a text book, hands cramped from making notes and eyes red and sore.

But when Koyama comes home from work early, tear tracks staining his cheeks and fresh ones welling in his eyes, Shige doesn’t even have time to think before he drops the book in his hands.

He says nothing as he pulls the older man into his arms, just lets him cry into his shoulder until he’s calm enough to try and tell Shige what’s wrong.

Even though it’s not his fault and he knows he can’t help everyone, Koyama still takes it hard when a surgeon pulls him aside and tells him in a soft voice that one of his patients passed away on the operating table.

4) Surrounded by germs, viruses and ill patients for twelve hours every day, it’s no wonder that Koyama often comes home feeling a bit under the weather.

But when has to drag himself out of bed, so congested he can barely speak and with a fever that even makes Shige feel uncomfortable and still insists that he’s well enough to work a thirteen hour shift until six in the morning, Shige has to put his foot down.

The look on Koyama’s face when he calls the hospital to tell them that he’s not interested in how understaffed they are and no he doesn’t care how much they need Koyama-san right now, he’s not working tonight is almost enough to make Shige feel guilty. But when he tucks Koyama into bed with a hot water bottle and a warm bowl of chicken soup and the other man falls asleep almost instantly, Shige knows he’s done the right thing.

Koyama will thank him in the morning.

5) When Shige finally gets home after his lecture, cold, tired and so pissed off that if he even sees one more statute or one more case name he’s going to rip his own eyes out, the only thing he wants to do is peel off his wet clothes, take a warm bath and get into bed, the scowl on his face is replaced with a look of confusion when Koyama greets him at the door.

“W-what... are you doing here?” He asks, blinking as Koyama pries his obscenely heavy book bag from numb fingers and dumps it on the floor by the door.

“I made them give me a day off.” Koyama grins, smile bright enough to light up the room. “I’ve been working a lot recently and we haven’t really ha—“

He’s cut off when Shige flings himself at him, mouths pressed together and cold fingers curled into Koyama’s hair. Koyama just laughs and warmth spreads through Shige’s entire body as the other man guides him towards their bedroom.

Okay, so maybe there is one other thing he’d like to do first.
