Red
Red is the colour of the umbrella that Tegoshi unfolds above his head, seeking shelter from the heavy rain drops that are pelting down from the sky. He reaches out for Kusano, numb fingers curling around the other boy’s arm and tugging him closer, pressing them both together beneath the strong downpour.

Yellow
Yellow is the colour of daffodils as Tegoshi sprints across the field, rich laughter caressing the air as Kusano dives on his back, sending the two toppling to the ground in a swirling crescendo of petals. They roll over, breathless; Tegoshi’s weight pinning Kusano to the ground, toothy grin threatening to split the younger boy’s face in two.

Pink
Pink is the colour of Tegoshi’s cheeks as he snuggles closer to the fire, heavy patchwork blanket wrapped tightly around his shuddering frame. Kusano sits by his side, hands full of hot chocolate and cheeks stuffed to bursting with marshmallows. Tegoshi turns, eyes crinkled at the edges with laughter, and pries the mug from the other boy’s grasp, succumbs to giggles as the gooey treats spill from Kusano’s mouth.

Green
Green is the colour of envy as Tegoshi watches from a distance, eyes narrowed at the edges as Kusano sidles up to YamaPi’s side, slings an arm over his shoulders. It isn’t long before he gives in, gets up and leaves the room, door slamming loudly in his wake. Not five minutes later Kusano follows, pulls Tegoshi into a tight embrace and whispers sweet condolences into his ear.

Orange
Orange is the colour of the swings that carry Tegoshi, chains creaking in melancholy synchrony as he swings slowly. Hair falls across his face as he sighs, breath clinging to the frigid air around him. Tegoshi lifts his head as soft footsteps cross the sand beneath his feet, a chin rests on his shoulder and strong arms pull him to a stop. Kusano rubs their cheeks together, a familiar and comforting gesture, shared only between the two youngest members of the group.

Purple
Purple is the colour of bruises as Tegoshi stumbles along the hallway, knees buckling in pain as he falls weakly to the floor. Kusano drops to his knees beside the shaking boy, pulls Tegoshi close to his chest and wipes the tears away from his eyes, brushes his lips over the blemishes marring Tegoshi’s skin. The boy’s breath hitches and he buries his face in Kusano’s neck, hides himself from the world.

Blue
Blue is the colour of the silence that stretches between them, smoothers Tegoshi with anguish, grief and heartbreak. Kusano sighs softly, closes his eyes and tries to stop the tears from flowing down his cheeks. He reaches out for the other boy, praying for Tegoshi not to pull away, can’t bear to see the loathing in his eyes. Tegoshi shudders, deliberates and moves closer, closer to the boy that shattered his heart and smiles.
